L-S at the West Lampeter Fair
The 99th annual West Lampeter Community Fair kicks off Wednesday, 9/27, and runs through Friday 9/29. There's so much to see and do!

FAIR SCHEDULE
Day One: Wednesday, September 27
9 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. / Market Shows - Garden Spot FFA students will show their animals in the market swine, market lamb, and market goat shows. Best of luck to this year’s livestock show team of Kayla Frey, Sarah Firestone, Ian Lyons, Jaclyn Martin, Brooke Rubincam, Landon Slaugh, Audrey Wagner, and Connor Welk.
7:00 p.m. / Fair Queen Parade - The parade will leave Lampeter-Strasburg High School at 7 p.m. and travel to the fairgrounds via Village Rd. through Lampeter Square. The Martin Meylin Middle School marching band will lead the parade, which includes the fair queen candidates, their escorts, and classmates from sponsoring school clubs and organizations.
7:30 p.m. / Fair Queen Contest - Nine seniors will compete for the crown this year: Sydney Albright, Sarah Blount, Kathryn Davis, Rakhshanda De Lima, Bethany Helms, Ava Leonard, Rehema Ongosi, Elisabeth Reinhart, and Charlotte Wenner. Read more about each of the candidates here.
Day Two: Thursday, September 28
9 a.m. - 12 p.m. / County FFA Livestock Judging - Garden Spot FFA students will spend the morning livestock judging alongside FFA students from other school districts.
6 p.m. / Band Concert - the Lampeter-Strasburg High School marching band will perform a short concert in the show ring.
7 p.m. / Dairy Beef Show - Members of the Garden Spot FFA livestock show team will compete in a dairy beef show.
Day Three: Friday, September 29
9 a.m. - 12 p.m. / Chapter FFA Livestock Judging - the fun continues for FFA members on Friday morning.
6:30 p.m. / Youth Livestock Sale - L-S students/FFA members will participate in the Youth Market Goat, Lamb, Hog, Dairy Beef, and Beef Cattle Sale. This event is open to FFA and 4-H exhibitors and is limited to students from Lampeter-Strasburg, Penn Manor, Pequea Valley, and Solanco school districts. To be sold, the animals must have been shown in the FFA or 4-H classes of the fair.1

FOOD
Fairgoers can choose from a variety of foods. The proceeds from several stands benefit L-S students, including:
- Garden Spot FFA Chapter - sausage sandwiches, ham loaf patties, cheesesteaks, and drinks
- L-S Boys Lacrosse Boosters - pork BBQ, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, soup, and fruit cups
- L-S Boys Soccer Boosters - waffles & ice cream, subs, and apple dumplings
- Pioneer Marching Band - hamburgers & hot dogs
- Pioneer Interact Club - pizza, walking tacos, and ham & cheese sandwiches
- Strasburg/Willow Street Baseball & Softball Association - French fries & chicken tenders
(Other offerings include funnel cake, breakfast sandwiches, pit beef sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, whoopie pies, milkshakes, and root beer floats.)
EXHIBITS
All exhibits at the fair must be educational, including work submitted by L-S students. A quick walk through any exhibition area will reveal entries from our students. Additionally, the L-S Agriculture Department runs an agricultural-topic contest for students at Lampeter and Hans Herr. Classes are divided by grade level, and categories are individual shoebox diorama, poster, and tri-fold; and class poster and tri-fold. Entries will be judged by Garden Spot FFA members on Wednesday night and displayed on Thursday and Friday (location TBD).2

Please stop by our booth, located in the corner of the white tent close to the exhibition hall, to meet members of the L-S school board and administration team. There’s also plenty of information for future Pioneers from our Early Childhood Department.
